The Great Grave Today

Great Grave.
The Great Grave as it appeared in 1998. Trees have grown up around the Great Grave and Pioneer Cemetery (in the background) creating what appears to be a different setting than where the Whitmans' were buried 150 years ago. However, there is very little distance between the original Great Grave and the permanent tomb, placed in 1897. The other marker within the fence is that of William Gray and his wife, who were originally buried in Astoria, Oregon, but later re-interred at Waiilatpu.
