FORT
VANCOUVER: THE INLAND FUR TRADE
Directions:
Study the diagram of Fort Vancouver as it was in 1845. Then read
and answer the following questions.
Some
clues to the answers may be found in the section titled The
Inland Fur Trade Company.
- Circle the
building where Dr. John Mcloughlin lived.
- Hudson's
Bay point blankets, cloth, beads, and many other things were sold
to Indians at the fort. Put a square around the building where
this activity took place.
- Put a triangle
around the building where people made wagon wheels, beaver traps,
and other tools out of iron and steel.
- What do you
think was kept in the building labeled "stores?"
- Who stayed
in the building labeled "Bachelors' Quarters?"
- What is a
"powder magazine?"
- What was
the "bastion" used for?
- If you could
add more buildings to the fort, where would you put them and what
would you call them? Why?
