On-Line Museum to Be Funded by Humanities Grant

Date
August 28, 2003

WAPA was recently awarded a grant which will allow for the development of a website which will serve to "commemorate the bravery and sacrfice of all those who participated in the Pacific Theater during WWII".

Due to the generosity of the Guam Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities, this website will allow people to learn about the events of WWII in the Pacific and the events of the capture, occupation, and liberation of Guam. This website will act as an on-line museum and will allow visitors from around the world to appreciate WAPA's resources and learn about the events of WWII and the contributions those who bravely served and sacrificed.

This website will honor those who served and will hopefully provide remembrance of the past and peace for the future. While WAPA remains without a visitor's center or museum, we are taking innovative and creative actions to find funding sources and utilize non- traditional methods to interpret and explain about WWII in the Pacific.

War in the Pacific NHP would like to take this opportunity to thank the Guam Humanities Council for their help during the application process and WAPA wishes to also extend a heart-felt thank you to the GHC for their generosity in selecting WAPA for the prestigious grant. The photo above includes Tammy Duchesne (Museum Curator, who is the project director of the grant) and other people who represent agencies and organizations who were also successful in the grant selection process.
