In a ceremony at the Asan Bay Overlook, Superintendent Eric Brunnemann and the Governor of Guam Felix Camacho addressed the crowd of about 100 people and honored those returning WWII veterans and Guam liberators.

Colonel Fraser E. West (Ret), US Marine Corps, Commanding Officer "G" Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division also addressed the crowd and shared his memories of his participation in the liberation of Guam 60 years ago. West's memories described the difficulties of the combat conditions and West praised the Chamorro people for their kindness and generosity. The view from the Asan Bay Overlook showcases the Asan Beach where the Marines first came ashore to liberate the Chamorros from the Japanese on July 21, 1944. The heart-felt remarks made by West made all stop and contemplate the sacrifice and bravery of the servicemen's actions. Doves were released after the ceremony was concluded as a symbol of peace for the future.
