On April 12, 2004, War in the Pacific National Historical Park was presented with a plaque for their volunteer services from the Navy's Fleet and Family Support Center.
Since the closure of the park's museum, administrative offices, and contact facility due to the devastating effects of Supertyphoon Pongsona last December, WAPA's interpretation program has centered on school and community based presentations.
Over the last year park rangers, the superintendent, the ecologist, the museum curator, and employees of the Arizona Memorial Museum Association have left the park to go to various schools and programs throughout the island.
While the staff longs for a new facility, their commitment to the community remains strong. Through creativity, ingenuity, and community based outreach, WAPA is still able to educate and inform the community about our park and the events of the Pacific Theater of WWII.
WAPA is appreciative of their latest award from the Navy and WAPA staff will continue to provide this outreach service to interested members and groups of the community while we wait for a new contact facility.
