On Wednesday, April 28th Guam's youth presented a wreath in commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of Guam's Liberation.
The ceremony was held at the Asan Bay Overlook at 3:15pm within the War in the Pacific National Historical Park. The Asan Bay Overlook was completed in 1994 for Guam's 50th Anniversary and at the unit, a Memorial Wall was built which lists the names of the American war dead, the Chamorro war dead, and the Chamorro survivors of WWII. More than 16,000 names are inscribed on the bronze panels.
According to the year 2,000 Federal Census, 154,805 were recorded as the official population of Guam. The youth population (ages 5- 18) comprised 26.1% (40,420) of this population.
The youths of Guam are the milestone of Guam's future as they will eventually be our leaders of tomorrow.
The wreath presentation is a commemorative symbol. It is a tradition from ages past. April is Youth Month. It is therefore significant that the Youth's of Guam end their month long activities by honoring and remembering the events and those who died and suffered during WWII.
