Plants of the Prairie at Washita Battlefield (NPS Photo)
Washita Battlefield NHS is located in the mixed-grass prairie, a large scale ecotone existing between the tall grasses to the northeast and the shortgrasses to the southwest. As such, the floral component of the site is a conglomeration of tall and short grass prairie plant species. In a sense this "middle ground" of the prairie ecosystems may be the most biologically diverse of them all. The variety of plant species found here is testament to that fact.
