In the words of one Civil War veteran,  "Vicksburg is the art park of the world!"

Preserving the park's historic structures is a detailed and complicated task.  In the mid 1980's, the park assembled and trained a monument restoration crew, which now includes two "experts" who are highly skilled technicians in the art of metal and stone preservation.
