1st Mississippi Infantry Battalion State Troops

 

At the Battle of Jackson, MS (14 May 1863), this unit along with civilian volunteers manned the seventeen pieces of artillery emplaced in the earthworks and acted as the rear guard for Brig. Gen. John Gregg's withdrawal from Jackson. [Refer to Edwin Bearss' The Vicksburg Campaign, Volume II, page 558.] No Marker or Monument
