Franklin Gardner's 3rd Military District at Port Hudson, LA, Lt. Gen. John C.
Pemberton's Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana and was commanded by Capt. Gadi
Herron. Originally Herron's Company Mississippi Cavalry, this organization was
redisignated Co. H, 1st Mississippi Cavalry. [Refer to Official Records of
