26th Louisiana Infantry

 

Monument located on Confederate Avenue between the Tennessee Memorial and the Stockade Redan (Park Tour Stop #10). At the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou this unit was attached to Col. Allen Thomas' Provisional Brigade of Brig. Gen. Stephen D. Lee's Provisional Division. During the Greenville Expedition, the regiment was assigned to Brig. Gen. Stephen D. Lee's Reinforced Brigade of Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton's Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, afterwards it was attached to Brig. Gen. Francis A. Shoup's 3rd Brigade of Maj. Gen. Martin Luther Smith's Division, Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton's Army of Vicksburg and was commanded by Col. Winchester Hall (wounded 19 May 1863) & Lt. Col. William C. Crow.
