40^th Georgia Infantry

Iron tablet located at South Fort on South Washington Street. This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. Seth M. Barton’s 1st Brigade of Maj. Gen. Carter L. Stevenson’s Division, Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton’s Army of Vicksburg and was commanded by Col. Abda Johnson (WIA at the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou) & Lt. Col. R. M. Young. [Refer to Gen. S.M.
