The goals of the "Parks as
Classrooms" program and Vicksburg National Military Park are:
1 ) To foster an awareness of our cultural
resources and the role
Vicksburg National Military Park plays in preserving these
resources.
2) To help students understand that the Civil
War had interrelationships
which shaped the soldiers, civilians, battles and the war.
3) To provide every student with opportunities
to acquire, knowledge,
values, attitudes, commitment and skills needed to understand and
appreciate the past and improve and/or protect our cultural and
natural
resources.
Mission of the National Park Service "... To conserve the scenery and the natural and
historic objects and the wild life therein and to provide for the enjoyment of
the same in such a manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired
for the enjoyment of future generations."
