38th Arkansas Infantry

 

This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. James C. Tappan’s Brigade of Maj. Gen. John G. Walker’s Division, Maj. Gen. Richard Taylor’s District of Western Louisiana in Lt. Gen. Edmund Kirby Smith’s Trans-Mississippi Department and was commanded by Col. R. G. Shaver. Ordered to northeast Louisiana the unit reached Monroe, LA the second week in June 1863. During the forth week in June 1863 the unit moved against the plantations in Madison Parish, LA, that were growing cotton for the United States Treasury.
