Appeal Battery Arkansas Artillery

 

Iron tablets located on Confederate Avenue at the Stockade Redan (Park Tour Stop #10), on Old Jackson Road east of Confederate Avenue at the 3rd Louisiana Redan and at the Great Redoubt. At the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou this unit was attached to Brig. Gen. Louis Hèbert’s Brigade of Maj. Gen. Dabney H. Maury’s Division, Maj. Gens. Martin Luther Smith’s (until 30 Dec 1862) and Carter L. Steven’s 2nd Military District in Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton’s Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana and was commanded by Capt. William M. Hogg. Later the regiment was assigned to Brig. Gen. Louis Hèbert’s Brigade of Maj. Gen. John H. Forney’s Division, Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton’s Army of Vicksburg and was commanded by Capt. William M. Hogg, Lt. Christopher C. Scott & Lt. Robert N. Cotten. [Refer to Edwin Bearss’ The Vicksburg Campaign, Volume I, page 226 and Volume III, pages 783, 870 & 965.]
