Construction of the USS Arizona
Memorial was completed in 1961 and was officially dedicated on Memorial
Day 1962. A visitor center was opened on the shore in 1980, at which
time the Navy turned the operation of the Memorial over to the National
Park Service. Tours to the sunken remains of the battleship Arizona,
are accessible only from the visitor center. Photographer: David
