Con fha de vein^te y dos de Mayo proxmo pasado me comunica el S^or Brig^er Cavall^ro Croix laq^e VE lo copia con fha de nueve de febrero ultimo del Ill^mo S^or Dⁿ Josef de Gal vez por lo q^e quedo entendido de q^e S. Mag^d se ha servido conferirme el Govierno del Nuevo Mex^co y como otra gracia conosco q^emas me ha resultado por venevolencia y recomendacⁿ de VE q^e por merito mio espe ro q^e se digna admitir mis respectivas reberon los gracias con el perpetuo agradacim^to conq^e lo vivire por asea q^e ha añadido alas mu chas conq^e me ha honorado desde el punto q^e logre el honor de hacerme pres^te a las orns de VE.

With the date of May 22nd just passed, Lord Brigadier Caballero Croix communicated to me that which he copied to you, with the date of last February 9th from the Most Illustrious Lord Don José de Gálvez, from which I have understood that His Majesty has thought it befitting to confer upon me the Government of New Mexico and, as with other favors, I know it is more a result of the benevolence and recommendation of Your Excellency than for any merit of mine.  I hope in the review my respective qualifications are deemed worthy of acceptance.  The graciousness and perpetual appreciation with which I shall live to be adorned have been added to the many favors with which I have been honored from the point at which I gained the honor of receiving orders from Your Excellency.
