Notes:  The exact birth date of Padre Lopez is unknown but was sometime in 1766.  He was born in Madrid, Spain.  He was described as a small, swarthy man with black hair and beard.  He had a smooth chin and blue eyes which were rather wall-eyed.  Padre Lopez had studied three years of philosophy and two years of theology before he entered the Franciscan order in Toledo at age nineteen.  He was still a deacon in 1789 when he joined the mission to the College of Querétaro from the convento in Alcalá de Honares near Madrid.  He reached Tumacácori in mid-February of 1796.  He was made interim chaplain at Tubac.  He left Tumacácori on 29 May 1797 and went to Átil.  In October 1798 he was sent to Caborca and left there in 1800.  The returned to the College of Querétaro since he suffered from ill health continuously.
