Franciscan Priests

The Franciscans are the friars minor founded by St. Francis of Assisi (Italy) in 1209 A.D.  Franciscans are divided into three distinct and independent branches, one of which is known simply as Friars Minor.  As missionaries, these friars have gone to the ends of the earth and to them is left the popularization of such devotions as the Stations of the Cross and the Christmas crèche.  The Franciscans also introduced drama as a means of teaching Christianity to the Indians of Mexico, for example, the Posadas and Piñata as well as the "Shepherd's Play" or Pastorela.
