The first recorded marriage at Calabazas was performed by Father Miguel Gerstner.

“On the 16th of March [1760], Xavier and Rosa, unmarried persons of  the village of San Cayetano de Calabazas, were married in church ceremony. Witnesses were Estevan, chief governmental officer of Calabazas, and Agustín from the same village.”

 IHS Francisco Pauer

Note.  This group consists of twenty-nine couples, seventeen single men, two single women, and one ten-year-old boy, plus the native governor of Calabazas, who was godfather for the alcalde, or mayor.  Joseph Aan and his wife, Rosa, are listed twice.  This makes a total of seventy-eight people who were baptized.  If the governor also went to Calabazas with the group, it would mean that seventy -nine people, at the very least, were transferred to the new mission of Calabazas this day.

All translations from original Spanish mission records were done by Don Garate, Chief of Interpretation/Historian, Tumacácori National Historical Park.
