Desert
Millipede
Orthoperus ornatus
Body Length: 4 - 5"
Diet: Decaying vegetable
matter
Millipedes have many more body segments than centipedes.
Most of the body segments have two legs. New segments and legs are added each
time the millipede sheds.
Millipedes are nocturnal, and are often found under stones where there is a lot
of moisture. They coil up tightly when disturbed, and may emit a foul smelling
fluid to deter predators.
Unlike centipedes, millipedes do not care for their eggs or young.
