
Gourds can be made into
bottles by cutting off the top and scraping out the pulp and seeds. If the side
is cut off, as seen here, they make scoops or dippers. Some
varieties are edible; the seeds, roots, young fruits, and flowers of the buffalo
gourd can all be eaten. Roots can also be used as fuel, and seeds used for soap.
