The National Park Service will once again utilize the Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program to employ area youths in maintenance and conservation work at Theodore Roosevelt National Park. YCC positions will be used in the park's South Unit, which is located near Medora, ND, and the North Unit, which is 15 miles south of Watford City, ND.

Young men and women who will be at least 16 years of age by June 1, but not older than 18 as of August 30, and are permanent residents of the United States, are eligible for the program. In addition, applicants must have or be able to obtain a social security card and must be able to participate in strenuous physical work activity, much of which will be outdoors. Participants may be exposed to insects, poison ivy and adverse weather.

When considering applying for a YCC position, youths and their parents or guardians need to consider the enrollee's need to find a means of transportation between home and the park on a daily basis. The park does not provide housing or transportation.

Selection for YCC positions will be made by random drawing without regard to job skill, social, economic, racial or ethnic backgrounds.

Job Service North Dakota in Dickinson and Williston will handle the applications for the South Unit positions and North Unit positions respectively. After the drawings have been conducted, the lists of potential enrollees will be sent to the park.

Persons selected for the YCC program will be employed for approximately 10 weeks, beginning June 12. Enrollees will work an 8-hour day, 40-hour week. The work schedule will be Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The salary will be $5.15 an hour.

Interested persons may obtain an application for the YCC program from the Dickinson or Williston Job Service North Dakota offices as well as park offices in Medora and North Unit. Completed applications must be returned to the appropriate Job Service office by May 12.
