The reservation process for the Roundup Group Horse Campground located in the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park has been revised. Starting in 2006, groups will be selected from a mail-in lottery process rather than a first-come, first-served telephone process utilized the past few years.
Those interested in applying for a reservation can call 701-623-4730, extension 3417, to request an application form.
The campground is open from May 1 to October 31, but water may or may not be available in May and October. Maximum length of stay is 5 days annually. Minimum group size is 6, and maximum group size is 20 people and 20 horses, or 30 people without horses. The fee is $2.00 per person per night and $1.00 per horse per night, with a $20.00 minimum for each night.
The first Monday in March is considered to be the “opening date” for reservations for that year. Requests for reservations are to be postmarked or faxed no earlier than March 6 in 2006. Those postmarked or faxed before March 6 will be rejected, and telephone reservations are not accepted. All reservation requests mailed or faxed on March 6 have equal chances of obtaining requested dates. Please do not send duplicate requests for the same group. Processing of reservations begins approximately 10 days after opening date. Requests are sorted by postmark and fax date. All requests postmarked or faxed March 6 will be processed first. If the first date requested is not available, alternate dates listed will be considered. When all March 6 requests are completed, the process continues with requests postmarked or faxed March 7, and each subsequent date.
A confirmation letter, or a letter indicating the request was unsuccessful, will be sent to each applicant in late March.
