The public is invited to participate in afternoon cross-country skiing or hiking adventures at the North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Volunteer Ranger John Heiser will lead the half-day long wilderness hikes.

Meet John at the North Unit Visitor Center, located 15 miles South of Watford City, at 12:00 CST every other Sunday throughout the winter. The hikes will be offered: December 4 & 18, January 8 & 22, and February 5 and 19th. Dress appropriately for wandering through wilderness and observing badlands natural history during this coldest of seasons. Plan on hiking, however, the group may choose to ski instead, especially when skiing conditions are good. Novice cross-country skiers and hikers are welcome, as this will be a leisurely sojourn well suited to simply observe the winter landscape. Please bring cross-country ski equipment, hiking boots, and, if possible, binoculars, natural history guides, and a favorite poem or quote. To help you warm up upon your return, hot chocolate and cookies will be provided at the visitor center.

For additional information (including severe weather postponements), please call 701-842-2333 or 701-863-6987.
