Cultural Landscapes

A cultural landscape is a geographical area including cultural and natural resources associated with a historic event, activity, or person. Stones River National Battlefield encompasses nine cultural landscapes. These areas include natural and historic features including historic structures. By maintaining and improving these landscapes, the National Park Service provides visitors with a visual setting that evokes the powerful stories of the Battle of Stones River and its aftermath.

The battle at Stones River claimed more than 23,500 casualties making it one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. Stones River National Battlefield stands today as a silent reminder of those individuals who lost their lives there.
