  • Giant sequoia grove prescribed burn

    Abstract

Seedling Germination Following Fire in a Giant Sequoia Forest. B.M. Kilgore and H.H. Biswell. 1971. California Agriculture 25:8-10.

Prescribed burning in a sequoia mixed-conifer forest resulted in large numbers of sequoia and shrub seedlings and a reduction in litter and duff accumulations by about 80%. Sequoia seedlings densities following the burn averaged 22,000 per acre (40,000 per acre in areas that burned hottest and 7,500 per acre in areas that burned the lightest).
