Burgoyne's Headquarters
Tour Road Stop 8

A group of British officers sits at a table under a
canvas tent. On the table are a number of plates and glasses. A young boy brings
a bottle to the table.

The path here leads to the site of Burgoyne's headquarters, which at the time of the battles consisted of a large marquee or tent. It was established as the main camp and headquarters after the action of September 19 and was the center of the British command and camp life between the battles.

The British chose this location for their main camp, and Burgoyne's headquarters, because of a nearby spring that would provide needed water.
