Freeman Farm Overlook
Tour Road Stop 1

scenic view from hilltop, with dense trees,
open fields, and a road visible close by and rolling hills in the distance

In 1777 this land was leased and farmed by John Freeman, a loyalist who went north and joined the British invasion force. The major fighting of September 19 took place in the fields. Morgan's Virginia rifleman opened the battle shortly before noon by firing on the advanced guard of Burgoyne's center column from their post in the Freeman House.
