| Issac Ward (1758-1825) served in Captain Samuel Clark's Independent Militia Company of Ulster County during the Revolution. Though not as capable as Continental troops, when called up, militia could add hundreds or even thousands of additional men to an army to face an enemy. After the emergency was over, the militia would return home and continue their civilian life until the next call-up. Militia records are not as well kept as were Continental army records; as such, much information has been lost to modern times. After the war, Ward served the community of Eastchester in many capacities such as Assessor, Fence and Damage Viewer, Overseer of the Poor, Viewer of Roads and as a member of Captain John Mondue's Company of Horse (Cavalry Militia). He was a Vestryman and a Warden of the church, and died in 1826. |
