19th Century Stone: Hay family
|
|
| Hay family (circa 1860) In the second half of the 19th century several tombstones resembling sarcophogi were erected in St. Paul's Cemetery. They usually served as markers for two or more family members who were buried beneath the stones. Nineteenth century Western interest in Egyption culture probably inspired this design. |
