18th Century Stone: Ellener Drake

Ellener Drake (1724-1729)
Ellener's marker reads, ELLENER DAUGHTER TO BENJAMIN & MARY DRAKE AGED 4 YEAR & 7 MO JUNE YE 10 1729. This tombstone, with its delicately carved scroll and leaf patterns, is the only 18th century slate marker in the cemetery. The stone was wrought for a young girl who probably succumbed to one of the many childhood diseases for which there was no known cure in the early 18th century.
