18th Century Stone: Cap Will Pinkney
Will Pinkney (1685-1755) was a captain in the Eastchester (NY) militia which was created in the 1670's primarily because of conflicts with the local natives. The militia, which drilled on the Eastchester Village Green, included all ablebodied white men between the ages of 16 and 60. Captain Pinkney fought in either Queen Anne's War or King George's War. Several stones from the 1750's display the heart design which appears on Pinkney's tombstone. The center star design symbolizes heaven.
