Building Friendship: Reports by John Monaghan

December 2000: Rigging the Mainstay

While working on Friendship on a Saturday in December, we were able to help Jeremy, Dave and the Charlestown Navy Yard M&R crew set the mainstay and fore shrouds in place. These heavy, thick Kevlar lines took five or six of us to carry aboard Friendship but the huge Navy yard crane lifted them in place with ease.

To begin, the Navy Yard crane lifts the riggers to the main top. They will guide the mainstay into position.
