Spanish American War

INTRODUCTION

The San Juan National Historic Site is composed of Castles San Felipe del Morro and San Cristóbal , the small Fortress of el Cañuelo and the walls of Old San Juan. These, together with La Fortaleza, are the largest and oldest of the fortifications constructed by the Spaniards in the New World. Their importance within the framework of world history and the magnificence of their architecture and the military engineering of their epoch make them worthy of study and preservation.

The intention of this book is to provide a tool which may be used by teachers, parents and students to awaken an interest in the study of this special Site and to promote an understanding and a desire to become involved in the preservation of these unparalleled treasures of our past.
