COMMON ELEMENTS IN THE CASTLES
Just as the Spanish cities on the Iberian peninsula were surrounded by walls, the Spaniards built their cities in the Americas in the same way. In Old San Juan we see a classic example of this construction and of the Castles built to defend the city.
Although each of these Castles were built for a specific purpose, there are elements common to all. These elements include:
