HARBOR ENTRANCE - El Morro was built to defend this narrow passage into San Juan Bay so that enemy ships could not gain control of this 'Puerto Rico" or valuable port. The guns of El Morro form a deadly cross fire with cannon on the smaller fort called today El Cañuelo which you can see on Isla de Cabras just across the bay.
