The Watrous House (Doolittle Ranch House) is just north of the Mora River on US Highway 161 at Watrous, New Mexico. Samuel Watrous opened a trading store and made his home in this structure in 1849. The store catered to Santa Fe Trail travelers until the very end of the Trail era. The town was originally know as La Junta and was renamed Watrous when the railroad reached the town.
