 |
Boggsville is about 2 miles south of Las Animas on Colorado Highway
101. This small complex of two trading stores, owned separately by John W.
Prowers and Thomas O. Boggs, was a stage stop on the Santa Fe Trail. |
| New Fort Lyon
|
New Fort Lyon is 1 mile south of US Highway 50 on
Colorado 183, east of Las Animas. Active from 1867 to 1889, this post replaced
the Old Fort Lyon and helped to guard the Santa Fe Trail and later the railroad
line. The fort is now a veterans hospital; some of the original buildings
have been remodeled for use as part of the hospital complex.
