Santa Fe Trail Site Description
Lower Cimarron Spring (Wagon Bed Spring) Lower Cimarron Spring, also known as Wagon Bed Spring, is on the north bank of the Cimarron River. It is approximately 11 miles south and 1.5 miles west of Ulysses (about 2 miles west of the markers on Kansas 25 south of the river bridge). Lower Cimarron Spring was well known to all travelers who took the Cimarron route because it was the first reliable water supply they encountered after leaving the Arkansas River. Trail campgrounds were often located at this site.
