Orientation

Compass When it comes to visiting RNSP, be aware that a little advance planning will make the difference between a disappointing trip and one worth remembering. Many visitors who whisk through the parks on Highway 101 miss the trails, redwood groves, scenic drives, and coastal attractions nearby. Take a look at the Trip Planner for more details.

The best way to discover the parks is to ask a ranger or other park employee for helpful hints. A visitor center is conveniently located near each entrance to the parks.

If coming from the south, visit the Thomas H. Kuchel Visitor Center on Highway 101; from the east, stop by the Hiouchi Information Center on Highway 199 (summer only); from the north, visit the park headquarters on Second and K Streets in Crescent City. Jedediah Smith and Prairie Creek State Parks also have visitor centers.

See the maps page for detailed maps of RNSP.
