Ranger at RNSPRedwood National Park employs a variety of professional, administrative, technical, clerical, and trade employees. The park workforce consists of about 100 permanent and 75 seasonal employees. Necessary qualifications and wages vary with the type of position and skill required.

Applicants must apply to a specific job announcement.
Generic applications to any available vacancy are not accepted.
Applicants must submit an application and all other requested information prior to the closing date of the announcement.
There is no maintained list of available applicants in the form of a standing register.
Only United States citizens may be considered for National Park Service positions.

Generally employees must be 18 years of age.

Permanent employment

Permanent employment with the National Park Service requires specific education or work experience.

Occasionally, opportunities for the Student Career Experiences Program (SCEP) are advertised. SCEP provides relevant work experience for degree-seeking or vocational students. SCEP offers the possibility of gaining permanent employment upon graduation.

Temporary employment

Park Ranger and Park Guide: Vacancies for summer are posted the previous winter (November through February). Rehire eligibles must submit their request within the above time frame.

Roads and Trails crew and Maintenance: Applications are accepted between November 15 and December 15 each year. Phone RNSP for a copy of the announcement at (707) 464-6101. Rehire eligibles must submit their request within the above time frame.

Biological and/or Physical Science Technician: Applications accepted between November 15 and December 10 each year. Phone (707) 464-6101 for a copy of the announcement. Rehire eligibles must submit their request within the above time frame.

Student Conservation Association

Student Conservation Association (SCA) is your chance to join the more than 5,000 people who each year enjoy exciting and challenging work and service opportunities in national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, urban greenways, and wildlands managed by nonprofit conservation organizations. Develop your conservation career by gaining experience performing a variety of duties.

Youth Conservation Corps

Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) provides an opportunity to young people who are interested in gaining work experience in the parks. YCC members work for a small portion of the summer, performing manual labor, organizational tidying, and other helpful chores. The parks can sometimes afford to pay the the member's minimum wage. YCC is often made up of local youth, ages 15 through 18, who look forward to the opportunity to work in the parks.
