Internships at Prince William Forest Park


Prince William Forest Park, located in Triangle, VA, is currently recruiting for two intern positions. Training and guidance will be provided to not only insure effective work, but to benefit of the intern as well. Prince William Forest Park, a unit of the National Park System, contains over 15,000 acres of Piedmont and Coast Plain Forest. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) built the major facilities located in the park, including five cabin camps during the New Deal era of President Roosevelt. Later, during World War II, the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) used the camps to train spies and radio operators. Today, the park provides education programs, numerous recreation opportunities, including hiking and biking and a chance to learn about the cultural heritage of those who came before us. The park is located 32 miles south of Washington, DC.

Visitor Service Intern (2 Internships Available)

Required Qualifications:
Be currently enrolled full-time in a college or university.

Have completed two years of academic study toward a degree in Biology, History, Archeology, Environmental Science or a related field. Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above on a 4.0 scale or be in good standing has defined by institution enrolled in. Possess a valid state driver’s license.

Duties:
Performs a wide variety of visitor service and education functions including staffing visitor contact station, operating a fee collection station, roving park trails, and assisting park visitors with directions, orientation, trail information and in learning about the park's natural and cultural history. Other duties can include the design and presentation of one or more interpretive programs, or assistance with the same, to school and general audience visitors.

Length of Internship:
This is a 16 week program. Exact dates may vary but will fall between June and September.

- $13.25 per day, paid bi- weekly
