Funston Avenue Archaeological Project

In the future, the Civil War-era Officers' Quarters along Funston Avenue will be rehabilitated. Alterations will include landscaping and installation of water-conserving irrigation. The Funston Avenue Archaeology Project is aimed at identifying and investigating archaeological deposits in the area to be affected by rehabilitation activities. The information recovered is allowing us to better understand what life was like for people living at the Presidio through its extensive history. Because the entire historical development of the Presidio from the Spanish Period to present is represented in deposits along Funston Avenue, this project can provide a unique window into its past.
