Entertainment

Pipe Spring is a quiet and remote place. Few employees live on the monument. Come prepared to self-entertain. Most volunteers, and staff for that matter, drive to other areas for entertainment. Below are some forms of entertainment.

Indoors
Videos are a favorite form of entertainment. Rentals are available in Kanab.

A movie theater in Kanab screens one movie each week. St. George has many theaters and it is common to drive there as a treat.

The monument has a good library of natural and cultural history books. A library is also available in Kanab.

Hobbies can fill the quiet times when a brief storm makes travel unpleasant. Sometimes it is possible to find a card-playing partner within the staff.

Outdoors
Hiking the monument's one and a half mile trail is popular for exercise and its changing views. No hiking is allowed on surrounding tribal reservation lands unless a permit is acquired from the tribe.

Slightly more distant surrounding scenery is great at all elevations with many public lands available to explore. About 10 national parks, national monuments and state parks are within a 200-mile radius of Pipe Spring. The lower desert areas are great for winter hiking. If you have a 4-wheel drive or high clearance vehicle, there are many roads to explore. Check out our local attractions page.

The higher elevations have snow for cross-country skiing. There is also a downhill ski resort a few hours away.
