Carpet Beater

What: Before the age of the vacuum cleaner, rugs and carpets were difficult to clean. They had to be taken up and hung outside on a line. The carpet beater was used to hit the rug or carpet and pound out as much dirt as possible. Then all the carpets and rugs had to be put back in place. And you thought vacuuming was such a chore!
