Monument Visits



Petroglyph National Monument invites you and your students to attend an educational program at the monument. Programs last from one and a half hours to two hours. All programs are offered free of charge.

 
Teacher and students visit Petroglyph National Monument.
Boca Negra Canyon - Open 8:00-4:30 daily.
Recommended for grades K-4.
View 200 petroglyphs on three short trails.
Restrooms, water fountain, and picnic tables.
Degree of difficulty: Easy to moderate walking.
Ranger to prepare custom education programs to meet the needs of the teacher.
Picnic tables available

Rinconada Canyon - Open 8:00-5:00 daily.
Recommended for grades 5-12.
View 500 petroglyphs along 2.5 mile hiking trail.
No water available.
Pit restroom facility.
Degree of difficulty: Easy to moderate hiking.
Ranger to prepare custom education programs to meet the needs of the teacher.

Piedras Marcadas Canyon - Open 8:00-5:00 daily.
Recommended for grades 5-12.
View 300 petroglyphs along a 1.5 mile hiking trail.
Restrooms and water are not available.
Degree of difficulty: Moderate hiking.
Ranger to prepare custom education programs to meet the needs of the teacher.

Volcanoes Day Use Area - Open 9:00-5:00 daily.
Recommended for grades 5-12.
No petroglyph viewing.
Great location for geology program.
No water.
Pit restroom facility.
