En esta ponencia se presenta un análisis de las breves investigaciones realizadas en este sitio arqueológico de manifestaciones gráfico-rupestres, cuya complejidad es mayor a lo que se ha considerado históricamente como el panel principal. La Pintada es un asentamiento en el que convergen evidencias de distintos grupos históricos tales como Seris y Pimas, además de grupos arqueológicos de la costa central. En este trabajo presentamos análisis de algunos de diseños que se han registrado últimamente.

Este sitio, desde hace más de 30 años, ha sido contemplado como un atractivo turístico por instancias gubernamentales locales más su acceso y visita no ha sido regulado ni abierto al público por el INAH, es por ello que en los últimos meses hemos iniciado la organización para la elaboración del plan de manejo y su próxima apertura, representando un reto para nuestra institución para responder de manera razonada a las exigencias políticas que ponen en amenaza a estos sitios, en el marco del desarrollo de la escalera náutica.


La Pintada: Symbolic Region of Sonora's Treasured Rock Art

This presentation offers an analysis of the preliminary surveys of this archeological site containing rock art. The complexity of this site, as one of the most important examples of rock art, is greater than what has heretofore been historically considered. La Pintada represents the evident convergence of different historic cultural groups such as the Seris and the Pimas along with prehistoric groups of the central coast. This study presents an analysis of some of the most recently inventoried examples of rock art designs.

For more than 30 years, this site has been viewed as a tourist attraction at the urgings of local governments. INAH, however, has not yet regulated public access or visitation to the site. Because of this, in the last few months INAH has begun efforts to develop a management plan prior to the sites' eventual opening. This represents a challenge to our institution to respond in a reasonable manner to the political exigencies that sometimes endanger these sites, such as the development of the megaproject Escalera Náutica.
