WELCOME!

Located twenty-five miles south of Richmond in Petersburg, Virginia, the battlefield contains 2,460 acres and is made up of six major units. These units contain battlefields, earthen forts, trenches and Poplar Grove National Cemetery. Collectively, they reveal the story of the longest siege in American warfare and the experiences of the nearly 150,000 soldiers from both sides of the trenches.

Find out what is happening in the park right now through the Events, News & Issues, Bookstore, and Volunteer In the Park (VIP) Opportunities pages. Through the Education section this website connects you to the nine and one-half month siege in 1864-65 via the Biographies, and History pages and helps you to explore your history and challenges you to learn about this battlefield in the Research, Siege Challenge, Kids' Pages, Teachers' Pages and Unit Information pages.

Enjoy!
