Most of the Commemorative Motor Route is on two-lane state or U.S. highways suitable for large vehicles, including RV, buses, and cars or trucks with trailers. There are limitations and special circumstances at specific facilities.

Tennessee 44

Two lanes, narrow, sharp curves at the Virginia line.

U.S. 421

Two lanes, narrow and winding. Follows city streets through Bristol.

U.S. 19E

Steep grade down into Elizabethton. Sharp curves and steep grades between Elizabethton and North Carolina line.

Tennessee 362, 361 - Gap Creek Road

Twisty, winding, very narrow road, with no shoulders. Steep grade in middle. Dangerous intersection with U.S. 19E.

Roan Mountain State Park

Narrow, twisting road into park. Dangerous curve at Shelving Rock. Because of the traffic and short sightlines, visits to or stopping at Shelving Rock are not safe.
